President Félix Tshisekedi expressed his deep sorrow after a double explosion this Thursday at the Place de l’Indépendance in Bukavu, during a meeting of Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC).
In his message, the Head of State offered his condolences to the bereaved families and expressed his solidarity with the victims. He strongly condemned an “odious terrorist act”, which he attributed to a foreign army illegally present on Congolese soil.

According to initial reports, two grenades were thrown into the crowd during the AFC meeting. Reports vary, with some sources suggesting at least eight dead and six wounded, while others put the death toll at around ten. AFC leader Corneille Nangaa had already left the scene before the explosion.
